EINlab: Discuss! with Jan & Halfway Celebration

Yesterday our group met Jan for the second time. Participants showed progress of their projects for EINmagazine. They have been working hard since today they have to hand in photos for exhibition that is going to take place next Friday. Our participants are very different and so are their projects. It was interesting to hear and see diversity of their thoughts and ideas.

In the evening we ate a dinner at a restaurant to celebrate a halfway of residency workshops. The meal was really delicious. Participants were pleasantly tired but happy.

EINLabs: TRY and See: Perception of depth!

In today's Lab lead by Ania Pabiś, the group explored the concept of depth perception and how this knowledge was transformed in visual arts - creating and working with depth on a 2D plane.

The workshop opened with a video presentation that discussed topics such as:

- the development of the representation of 3d in art history
- different techniques to approach this effect in painting
(i.e., superimposition & foreshortening)

Ania then presented a neuroscientific approach to perception of depth and discussed it in reference to photography.  The participants started an experiment.

Everyone was divided into small  groups and asked to create a false representation of one of the following monocular cues, that create the sense of depth on 2D plane.

Perspective
Relative Space
Aerial Perspective
Interposition
Curvilinear Perspective
Lighting
Shadowing
Blur

Walking around the room (and even around the block) I found that each group had their unique, creative approach.

It's only the second week, and the young photographers are progressing efficiently, each adopting new skills in their own ways.

Tune in to our blog updates to see the results!

EINlab: Try! Group Crit

Yesterday Francesco (Italy), Sara (Slovenia) and Liga (Latvia) presented one iconic photo. They all have very different style of photography so it was very interesting to look at their work and have a discussion. All pictures were great which made afternoon even better.

EINlab: Display!

Friday morning we had a workshop with Julian Menand. We talked about importance of displaying work on the website.

Looked at examples of other sites
wrote down some ideas about the way we represent our work in internet

 discussed ideas
In the second part of workshop we did an exercise where participants wrote down a paragraph about their photography or an artist statement. Afterwards they explained it to others verbally. It was interesting to see the difference between a formal and a written form.
